There was a time when hope was all Elien Josette had left. Her small business, the only means she had to sustain herself and her daughter had collapsed with the earthquake. A single mother, she had no one to help support her. She prayed desperately for God to make a way. God led her to Kofael. Just one year ago Josette began paying her way through her first loan from Kofael, a ministry of HGIM that helps Haitian women with business loans to keep their families together through hand ups, not hand outs. Josette’s prayer was to be able to grow her business selling second hand clothes and shoes on the Haitian street market in order to provide and send her daughter to school. Her prayer has been answered as she has worked hard, faithfully attended monthly Kofael meetings, put money into a savings account and paid back her loans. She is now a few months away from paying off Kofael’s largest business loan and her daughter is attending school. Each time we see Elien Josette she is wearing a smile and joyfully shares how thankful she is for the ministry of Kofael. Josette is one of fifty Haitian women whose lives have been changed by the Kofael program that continues to expand to extend hope to many more.
