#GivingTuesday: Love God and Love People

GT-Haiti1“…you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive…” (Genesis 50:20)

Long before the devastating earthquake in 2010, this verse became the theme of Heart of God Haiti based on the indiscriminate poverty which permeates Haitian culture. But, then, the earth shook violently without warning. A people already suffering were catapulted into a level of suffering beyond human comprehension. Thankfully, Heart of God International Ministries in Haiti was already there and ready to help pick up the pieces of devastated and shattered lives. God knew and had prepared the hearts of the ministry leaders to accept the monumental challenge to make a difference.

Today, there is a Children’s Center in the mountains where children are happy. It’s a place where laughter fills the dormitories when the sun goes down and the sounds of boys and girls playing and learning and loving seems to never cease. It’s doubtful many, if any, remember that tragic day that changed the lives of countless Haitians.

Adult education classes are helping illiterate Haitians with basic reading and writing skills. A scholarship program is in place to help extremely poor families make sure their children receive an education. Mission teams teach VBS classes and tackle a plethora of other projects. A feeding program has been making sure the village children attending school receive a hot meal each school day. Summer school classes provide activities and learning opportunities during the summer break while continuing the feeding program.

Along with all the activity in the mountains of Godet, Heart of God Haiti is at work making it possible for mothers to learn a trade, begin a business, and provide for their own families rather than add to the country’s orphan population. KOFAEL, a micro-loan project legally recognized by the Haitian government, is growing with the addition of a second chapter which reaches more women and  impacts more families. To date, more than 250 children have been touched by KOFAEL’s micro-loan ministry.

Most importantly, every task, every project and every program is done in such a way that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is clearly communicated to those who are touched by this ministry … evangelism is the goal while meeting the needs of men, women and children in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

There is a lot of activity in Haiti under the leadership of David and Julie Young. Together, they donate their time and talents to insure the ministry in Haiti continues to be one of integrity and financial accountability while fulfilling their call to spread the Gospel, loving God and loving people.

#GivingTuesday is just one day of the year set aside for special giving. We pray you will join the friends and partners of this vital ministry as they give so others will know the love and faithfulness of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Thank you for your generosity on #GivingTuesday and for your prayerful support throughout the year!
